Ardèche, France— Blend of mostly Syrah + Grenache. Light to medium bodied, juicy with notes of cherry, raspberry, campari + tarragon on the palate. A serious, layered light red that is perfect with a meal or on its own. Stefana Nicolescu has largely taken over the Calek domaine before she starts a project of her own.
Calek is a wine punk. He deserted the Czech army and was imprisoned before returning to France. He farms 4 hectares of vines biodynamically and all the wines are made without additives. Guy Breton is Calek's main influence aside from the Gang of Four. And before starting his own domaine in 2007 he worked for Mazel also in Ardeche.
