Rhône, France— Bottled under Gassier’s negoce line, Michel et Tina, this Cotes du Rhone is an updated classic. Made from grapes sourced from both sides of the Rhone; the right bank with its terroir of big pebbles and red clay, gives power and richness while the left bank, with its terroir of calcium-rich white clay, brings freshness and structure.
This vintage is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. After harvest, the grapes are de-stemmed, not crushed, then cool vinified and macerated for five weeks, with no SO2 added until racking. The wine ages in concrete vats for one year to preserve the purity of the fruit with minimal SO2 added at bottling.
This Grenache-based Rhone is deep ruby red in appearance with aromas of ripe black fruit, violet and licorice. The palate is full and velvety, with flavors of blackberry, cassis and hints of thyme and rosemary. The tannin on the finish is fine grained with pleasant freshness.
