FKA Contadino, the Susucaru Rosso is a blend primarily comprised of Nerello Mascalese with a small amount of other local varieties (Nerello Capuccio, Minella, Allicante Bouschet and Uva Francesa).
Frank Cornelissen has gained notoriety for good reason over the years. He started making wine with a mere .4 hectares in '01 and now farms 19 hectares with a team. He works very systematically and organized and keeps an impeccable cellar. He avoids all chemicals and herbicides and only ever adds a small amount of SO2 to keep the wines stable.
Spontaneous fermentation in fiberglass tanks with maceration on the skins for 60 days, and some aging in fiberglass tanks as well. This light-to-medium bodied red is peppery and herbal with notes of red fruit.
