Languedoc, France— A natty red from Languedoc that pays homage to “Uncle Marcos”, Zapatista spokesman, noted-anti capitalist, and anti-neoliberal, Subcomandante Marcos. Medium-bodied, dry with subtle soft tannins and fresh acidity. Juicy red fruit, earth, black pepper, dried herbs with a touch of barnyard funk. Syrah (50%) Grenache Noir (50%). Syrah from 70 year old vines, Grenache Noir from 35 year old vines, both parcels in Feuilla on a mix of silty-limestone and schist.
Hand harvest on August 21, 2022. Co-fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Syrah is de-stemmed and crushed then put into tank. At the same time, Grenache Noir is de-stemmed and crushed then put into another tank. After three hours the juice is drained off, like a rosé saignée, and mixed with the Syrah. All pressed after six days and put back into stainless steel. Bottled December 2022.
