Bio Bio, Chile— Father and son Patricio and Bastián Cea’s flagship red. País from 250 year old ungrafted vines(!!) from volcanic soil, aged in 5000 liter, 150 year old traditional beechwood barrels known as ‘Raulí’. Juicy, smoky red and black berries, undertones of earthiness and volcanic minerality with minimal tannins. Delicious and historic! Low S02.
The Cea family has owned their vineyards in the Bio Bio valley for more than six generations, and their incredible pre-phylloxera vines are over two hundred years old. The combination of these ungrafted vines, the moderate temperature in the region, and the black volcanic soils culminate in distinctive wines. With these ancient vines, father and son Patricio and Bastián Cea make a handful of different wines— all under the philosophy of natural wines with minimum intervention, each is made using artisanal techniques with the native ferments taking place in traditional Raulí vats.
