Friuli, Italy— 80% Chardonnay, 20% Tocai Friulano all hand-harvested from organic vineyards. Cofermented in oak vats and aged in large Slavonian oak botti. 2 weeks of skin-contact brings structure, not so much tannin. Passionfruit, pluots on the nose— bruised apple, fleshy peach, orange marmalade, alpine herbs, golden flowers, rock salt on the palate. Slatnik is the name of a local Slovenian village. Low S02.
Sasa Radikon's created the so-called "S" line of wines (Sivi/Slatnik/RS) as a complement to his father Stanko's flagship wines (Jakot/Oslavje/Ribolla) to expand their range. While all of the vines are farmed and the wines vinified identically, the two lines are diffferent in several key ways. The "S" white wines are macerated for 2 weeks vs. 3 months; aged 1 year vs. 3-4 years (both in Slavonian oak botti); bottled in 750ml format vs. the groundbreaking 500ml/1L sizes; and touched with sulfur at bottling vs. zero for the traditional wines.
