Veneto, Italy— A fresher take on Valoplicella from the son-in-law of Stefano Menti. 80/20 blend of Corvina and Rondinella, all organic and biodynamically-farmed, from small parcels on volcanic soil. Light on its feet but profound, mineral driven with a palate of rich red fruits, blackberry, mulberry with a hint of clove and basil. Minimal tannin and mouthwatering acidity. Low S02.
Garganuda is the blend of two distinct words: Garganega, a native grape; and nuda, which means ‘naked’ in Italian. Garganuda is Andrea Fiorini’s project. While he does not come from a family of winemakers, his brother-in-law is Stefano Menti. As wine is a family affair at Menti, Andrea has helped at the Menti winery for many years, gaining valuable experience that informs his own farming and winemaking practices at Garganuda. Through his work, Andrea was able to find small parcels of vineyards he could transition to biodynamic farming with the guidance of Stefano. Like all of the Menti vineyards, Garganuda is farmed without chemicals and is on volcanic soil. The trellised vineyard is populated by a meandering flock of sheep, whose grazing controls weeds between the rows and contributes to the microbial health of the soils without compacting them.
