From own-rooted vines planted in 1972, this Chardonnay is farmed organically and Sam and Shaunt employ some elements of permaculture. The Dobson Vineyard is located at the foot of the active, Mount Lassen volcano (just north of Sacramento), at 850 meters above sea level. The vines are planted in gravelly loam.
2016 was an awesome vintage for North California and at this price, I’d say this wine is a steal. Don’t be alarmed by the sediment, even though this is a natural wine it will please most typical Chardonnay drinkers. A balanced rich and creamy note with notes of stone fruit, lemon and walnut on the tail.
This wine is also for those that enjoy Burgundy, Etna, or Jura wines. Scant sulfur added at bottling and a mere 125 cases produced.
