Anders Frederik Steen, a Danish ex-pat, makes wine in Ardeche. He worked for years as a sommelier at one of the best restaurants in the world, Noma. Now he makes earnest, true, and contemplative natural wines and by principal uses "just grapes.” He takes a creative and intuitive approach. The names of his wines are always poetic and playful, and I believe he follows that same approach in the vineyard.
Les Vignes des Enfants is from a parcel of Syrah with a rare strain called Seline. Goblet trained and planted in a unique soil composed of limestone, clay, and marnes bleues. 2018 was a warmer vintage leading to a savory Syrah. Two and half years in barrique. Black fruit, brine, and spice.
