Lombardy, Italy— Barbacan ’Sol’ Valtellina Superiore is a natural red wine made from 100% Chiavennasca grapes, the local name for Nebbiolo, grown in the Valgella subzone of Valtellina Superiore DOCG in Lombardy, Italy. Produced by Angelo Sega and his sons Luca and Matteo on terraced slopes at 400-750 meters elevation on sandy soils rich in gneiss, granite, and quartz. The single-vineyard Sol parcel undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 12 months aging in large Slovenian oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulfites.
Transparent garnet-red color with youthful intensity. Nose displays red berries, floral carnation, earthy mushrooms, and Alpine herbs. Palate offers elegant red fruit flavors, spice notes, fine-grained tannins, and mineral backbone. Fresh acidity balances with structured finish reflecting mountain terroir.
