Alicante, Spain— Casa Balaguer initially only made 500 bottles of this 100% Cabernet Franc for friends and family, but the positive response spurred them on to release it to the masses. The winemaking is interpretive and eclectic, driven by feeling. The process includes a little bit of everything— some whole bunch, some time in amphora, stainless steel, oak and even glass demijohns.
The result is a lively wine combining flavors of vivid young red fruit and more mature notes of cassis. Works well as an aperitif wine but can also stand up to red meat and hard cheese.
