The Homok 2020 from Koppitsch is made from a variety of white grapes growing on sandy soil. “Homok” means “sand” in Hungarian – not surprisingly the Austrian vineyard is located right at the Hungarian border at Lake Neusiedl. As its title suggests, this line from Alex and Maria focuses on the characteristics of the terroir. The slightly cloudy juice is refreshing, light and has delicious tropical notes. Passion fruit, pineapple, grapefruit and a slight fresh almond aftertaste, super delicious! Light in alcohol, a hint of creaminess and a touch of fizziness, have fun guys!
Alex and Maria (and their three boys) have 6.3 hectares of vineyard that they farm biodynamically. The Koppitsch name runs deep in this area of Neusiedl, in 1523 Koppitsch was the mayor of the town and also a winemaker. The Koppitsch’s think of the whole picture of natural winemaking. They source sustainable corks, boxes (without tape or in) and have lighter bottles.
Maria says, “we want to make fun wines that bring you pleasure and happiness”
