Castilla y León, Spain— Ismael Gonzalo is the undisputed master of Verdejo, a varietal the fifth-generation winemaker has long championed and grown around his native village of Nieva, where ungrafted, prephylloxera vines are plentiful. A blend of two harvest passes: the first for freshness and acidity, the second for depth and fruitiness. The resulting wine is a beautiful tension between freshness, acidity, structure and depth. High-energy, aromatic nose moving to grapefruit, pear, almond, fennel with a hint of earth and saline on the palate. Medium-light bodied with fresh acidity and a supple mouthfeel. No S02.
